Birthday Surprise
It was a beautiful day at Duck Cove Lane! And all the more so – because of the date we were there: May 25th! And that day marked the 83rd Anniversary of Sandy Hickey’s birth! We were eight strong: our intrepid Song Leader, Sandy Nisbet, Heather Brown, Sandy Batten, Jaye Trimm, Patti Martin, Gail-Ellen Kelley, Kay Gregory, and Pastor Ruth. Our intention was to join in a SURPRISE Birthday Sing-a-long.
We pulled it off! Her husband, Russ, and daughter, Denise, both proved that they could keep a secret. So, we enjoyed offering Sandy ‘the unexpected’. Yes, we sang the traditional “Happy Birthday” song. But from there, we serenaded her with some oldies but goodies: like “You Are My Sunshine”; and “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”. From there we spiraled upward – singing songs like “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”, “Do Lord”, and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”. And then, Sandy N. sang a beautiful solo – “In the Garden”. But singing wasn’t all we did. We also danced! Heather Brown started our feet moving when she did the Charleston to the tune of “5 Foot 2, Eyes of Blue”. Then, Jaye, got everyone moving by starting an impromptu circle dance.! And oh, what a good time we had!
