Local Missions - Help Needed
Dear friends and neighbors,
I am reluctantly appealing to you for assistance. Chrysalis Place depends on the generosity of our donors, and I sincerely hope that you can help us in this time of great need. Due to circumstances beyond our control we are experiencing increased numbers of clients. In the span of time between January 2022 through June of 2022 our food bank averaged food orders for 122 households per month. The average house hold size at that time was 3 people.(That figure was an increase from the times of the Covid pandemic). In the span of January to June of 2023 our food bank averaged food orders for 155 households. The average size of the household was 4 people. In addition to the increase in clients, as we all realize, the cost of food has dramatically increased. Because of these two facts, we have had to use reserves of both financial and food resources that we have been able to keep in reserve. Those reserves have been drastically reduced and the numbers of clients and the prices of food items continue to rise. This increased demand has forced me to come to you to ask for monetary assistance as well as donations of food items.Monetary gifts may be sent to : Chrysalis Place, P.O. Box 542, Gardiner, ME 04345.
Food items that are needed are as follows and may be dropped off at our facility (576 Brunswick Ave) on Tuesday from 8-9:30 am and 6-8pm and on Thursday from 8-9:30 am or 1-3pm.
Most needed items – Macaroni and Cheese, Spaghetti Sauce, canned pasta, soups (tomato, vegetable and chicken noodle), Baked beans, peanut butter, canned fruits (peaches, pears, pineapple, mixed fruit) canned vegetables (mixed vegetables, corn, and carrots) Jiffy mixes (breads, muffins, brownies and cakes) tuna, elbow macaroni and dry spaghetti.
We sincerely appreciate the generosity of your congregation. Many thanks for considering a donation to our neighbors who are food insecure!!
Sincerely,
Bev. Fernald LaPlante

The United Methodist Clothes Closet
109 Spring Street, Gardiner, Maine
(A Ministry of Randolph United Methodist Church)
The United Methodist Clothes Closet is in dire need of volunteers for the winter months. The reason being a number of our regular workers have gone to Florida for the winter.
We are currently open on Thursday from 10 am until 2 pm and on Saturday from 9 am until noon.
The work is easy sorting clothing and pricing and deciding if the garment meets our standards. If not, we move it on. However, we really need more cashiers. You will be trained.
If you might possibly be thinking of serving the community in this capacity you are always welcome to stop in and ask questions and see how smoothly our operation runs.
We provide clothing for over 100 voucher families every month and provide them with winter coats and boots whenever the need arises.
Remember our name is The United Methodist Clothes Closet so please come and join us.
Thank you for considering working.
Bette Seymour, Manager
